Emmanuelle at Tide casting is the stunning model based in London who not only has striking looks but a genuine and honest personality. Her beauty and cool energy makes her not only an exceptional model but a really fun girl to be around. As a model, Manu has landed major jobs such as Marc Jacobs and campaigns for the likes of Miss Sohee and Paula Nadal to name a couple. F Word's Joseph Parker had the pleasure of getting to know Emmanuelle as he teamed up with photographer Celia Croft to take a few snaps in Trafalgar square.
Joseph Parker: Hey Emmanuelle, first off, thank you for shooting with us, modelling in the middle of Trafalgar Square on a busy Friday evening, in the chilly weather must have been tough. But you did pretty well withstanding this! What would you say is the most challenging thing about being a model?
Emmanuelle Loca: Hey Joseph! My pleasure haha I must say it was quite a challenge, but fun regardless as I was in good company.
I think that as a model, there are many challenging things that we experience, which can also vary from one person to another. From bad management, to sexual predators or racist conducts, the list is quite long. I don’t want to speak for anybody, but I personally think that the modeling world needs to stop looking at models as objects that are just disposable. Also, I would add that as a black model, on top of these issues, we have to deal with problems such as lack of representation, access and resources. Sadly, even in 2020, mere things such as people differentiating black models, having a hair stylist that knows how to do your hair or finding a client that doesn’t use you as a token can still seem as quite of a challenge. I personally often come to shoots with my hair already done and people often seem relieved [laughs] I don’t know about you, but for me all of it is quite fucked.

JP: What do you do besides modelling and how did you begin modelling?
EL: I study Curation at Central Saint Martins, and prior to that I studied political science. I always try to stay busy, that be doing photography, assisting on shoots or connecting people for potential work and projects. I am working on a few projects at the moment !
My friends and family have always pushed me to model, but I never had the confidence back then. I actually started taking it seriously around last year’s September. It’s fun and I have been meeting amazing people along the way. Yet, I still hold quite a bittersweet relationship with it, the industry really needs to change.

JP: Where are you from and where are you know? Does your life from a different place differentiate from your life here, now?
EL: I was born in Martinique and raised in Guadeloupe, both french islands in the Caribbean. I moved to Montreal when I was 15 and believe me when I say that was drastic... I grew up with not only a certain weather and scenery, but also a particular relationship with nature and life overall. Transitioning to the city life was quite hard for me at first, especially in a country as cold as Canada, but after 7 years spent there, I have made some of my best friends in Montreal. Now, I live in London. I moved here about 2 years ago and I’m really liking it. There’s a certain energy that resides here, it kind of makes everyone want to hustle somehow, someway and that’s very inspirational. I’m my friends’ biggest fan and London doesn’t lack in terms of inspirational and talented youths.

JP: Just wanted to throw a random, fun one out of the bag, so, if you could choose a super power what would it be and why and would you use it for good or for bad?
EL: Teleportation. I grew up between the Caribbean, Canada and France. My family and loved ones are literally scattered everywhere in the world, so it would be blessed if I could just blink and come visit, especially back to my home island, haha. Also, if I could travel everyday, I would.
