Makeup artist Emilie Louizides teamed up with photographer India Hasnip and stylist Sophie Emmett to bring her ideas to life through F Word magazine’s latest story titled ‘A New Kind of Beauty’ featuring Louie Akinwale at FIRST. Makeup assistance by Beth Gough.
When doing her MA last year, Louizides was creating projects that focused on introducing straight men to makeup and this shoot with Louie was one result. Louizides explains “I experimented with normalising makeup for straight men by categorising looks into personalities that exist in the real world. The personalities were "The Arty Professional”, "The CEO", "The Hot Teacher" and "The Party Man". The idea was that these kinds of men could wear these kinds of looks out and about. Louie is straight and he was really into the makeup; when we finished shooting he said he could see himself wearing the looks to raves. When I heard that I considered the story a success. The goal in publishing this story isn't to try to convince other straight men to wear makeup, but who knows; maybe some of the straight male readers will be into it!”
A fun, bold and uplifting story, F Word hopes this will be A New Kind of Beauty story that everyone can enjoy.
