ELINA RETURNS TO HER ROOTS IN HER LATEST EP 'A PLACE I RECOGNIZE', OUT NOW

ree

Swedish singer-songwriter and Ivor Novello nominee Elina returns with her most personal work to date, "A Place I Recognize", out today. Written during a transformative period in her life, A Place I Recognize was born after Elina made the huge decision to leave Stockholm and return to the countryside where she grew up. Returning to her roots turned out to serve her well, allowing her the space to reconnect with herself and rediscover the place that shaped her. The EP captures that emotional shift with raw honesty and there's an unmistakable clarity in both her voice and lyrics. If her debut single from the EP 'Scars', written with James TW, is anything to go by, the rest of the EP is set to be a huge success. We caught up with her to talk motivation, experimentation and something we could all do with a bit more of - hope.

F Word: What’s bringing the most joy to your days lately?

Elina: Just life at home, with my partner and my cat. I realise I’m starting to sound like an old lady, haha - but leaving Stockholm after ten years and moving back to the countryside where I grew up has been absolutely life-changing. I’m finally embracing who I am fully, and it’s given me a peace of mind I’ve been craving for such a long time.

FW: What’s motivating you the most lately?

E: Taking care of my health and nurturing relationships outside of music. Everything that’s not related to the music world, really, because it can so easily become your identity and the way you measure your worth. I’ve realised that the more I focus on what truly matters in my life, the more inspired I actually become.

FW: What genre could you see yourself experimenting with for a future project?

E: Definitely rock. I’ve always listened to rock and bands, it’s the music I grew up with and it’s always been close to my heart. I’m so excited that this upcoming EP has some of those elements. I finally got to write a body of work where it felt natural to bring in that side of me and blend it with the soft pop that’s been at the core of my project.

FW What are you hoping people will take from this song/EP/album?

E: Hope. A sense of being understood, if that makes sense. That’s always the driving force for me, to share something personal that, hopefully, someone else can connect with in their own way. I want people to recognise themselves in the music and feel a little less alone.

FW: Go-to lunch on a studio/writing day?

E: Sushi! Sadly, I’m a bit deprived of sushi restaurants where I live now so I take every chance I get when I’m in a bigger city working.
