A DAY IN THE LIFE: MIJA

MIJA takes us inside her world of hard disco, creative instinct and life on the road.
Berlin-based DJ, producer and vocalist MIJA is bringing her own twist to the dancefloor with Hard Disco, a four-track EP that fuses the genre’s feel-good roots with the darker, heavier energy of Berlin’s club scene. Written, sung, produced and mixed entirely by MIJA herself, it’s a project that puts creative instinct firmly in the driving seat. With a world tour fuelling fresh inspiration, a cat keeping her grounded and a dream of making music that stands the test of time, we caught up with MIJA for a Day In The Life, chatting melodies, manifestation and life on the road, alongside some exclusive imagery from her recent shows.
F WORD: If you had to assign a temperature, a colour, and a taste to this EP, what would they be?
MIJA: It would be yellow and cyan - two bright colors that juxtapose each other yet also share the same vision.
F WORD: What was the biggest change you made to the EP during the writing process?
MIJA: I added an entire song at the very last minute. “On The Floor” was made like a month before the project was due.

F WORD: If you had to choose one essential component of a great EP, what would it be?
MIJA: Melody. I think the melodies are the most important part, second to the bassline.
F WORD: What advice would you give yourself for tomorrow?
MIJA: Trust your instincts, go with your gut, and speak positively because that shit resonates and makes feedback loops.

F WORD: If you had to pick one song from the last couple of years (not made by you) what would it be?
MIJA: Prosekko Papi - Invisible
F WORD: What’s been bringing you the most joy lately?
MIJA: My cat brings me more joy than anything else in the world.

F WORD: If you had to choose a completely new career, unrelated to music, what would it be?
MIJA: I would be a painter or an author.
F WORD: What do you hope the impact of your music will be?
MIJA: I would love my music to be considered timeless. And I hope that it reaches the underdogs and they view it as proof that you can do literally anything.

F WORD: What’s motivating you the most right now?
MIJA: Touring in Europe has been the most motivating. Going to new cities for the first time is unlocking so much new found inspiration.
F WORD: Do you believe in manifestation?
MIJA: Yes, and I believe it’s a lot more scientific than people think.

F WORD: What is your favourite F Word?
MIJA: Fuck
