Swedish artist Venus Anon speaks to F Word about pushing genre boundaries, creative evolution, and the emotional weight behind her latest single, gentle.

Raised on Sweden’s west coast with influences ranging from Googoosh to Timbaland, Venus Anon pulls from a wide spectrum of sounds, blending elements of alternative R&B, experimental pop, indie, and electronic music into something that feels deeply personal and difficult to categorise. That unpredictability has become central to her appeal.

That fluidity is intentional. As an artist, Venus refuses to be confined by genre boundaries, instead allowing instinct and experimentation to guide her creative process.

“My name is Venus, and I’m a producer, writer and singer,” she tells F Word. “I consume art as much as I participate in its creation. I like to push the boundaries of genres whether it’s shoegaze, R&B or ambient.

“I’m interested in transforming pain and gore into beauty. I’m a warlord in a smart girl’s body.”

That philosophy can be heard throughout her latest single, gentle, a restrained yet emotionally charged release written during a three-month stay in a cabin while she began laying the foundations for her debut album, due in 2027. Emerging from a period of emotional heaviness, the track explores the tension between anger and restraint, choosing softness in moments when destruction can feel tempting.

Built through experimentation with guitar tuning and fragments of older material, gentle feels instinctive in both sound and structure. There is a sense of closeness to the track, as though it exists somewhere between a private thought and a confession, while Venus Anon’s understated delivery gives the song a calmness that only makes its emotional weight hit harder.

Craft remains central to everything she creates. Rather than chasing trends or repeating formulas, Venus is driven by a desire to constantly evolve and challenge herself creatively.

“I would like to think that it’s pretty apparent that I care about the craft above all, and that I seldom take pleasure in doing the same thing twice,” she says.

Alongside her growing international profile, Venus remains deeply connected to the Stockholm creative community that helped shape her artistry. While her music continues to reach audiences far beyond Sweden, she is quick to acknowledge the influence of the artists around her.

“My local scene means everything to me,” she explains. “Without my peers I would be nowhere near where I am artistically. Izza Gara, alma, Raghd, Boko Yout, Waterbaby, the list goes on! The scene in Stockholm has never ever been flourishing more than right in this moment.”

With more music expected throughout the year and a debut album on the horizon, Venus Anon continues to build a world entirely on her own terms. One rooted in experimentation, emotional honesty and a commitment to pushing creative boundaries.
