Introducing Lehwatch, an Ethiopian-Canadian brand, who have just released their brand-new collection for SS22. Entitled 'The Mattress Movement Collection', these pieces are made from the classic Ethiopian mattress print and reworked as stunning wearable items and accessories.
The founder Maisha Marshall-Ende was born and raised in Ethiopia by her Canadian adoptive parents. After completing her primary and secondary education at an international school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - she went on to graduate from OCAD University in Toronto, Canada, obtaining her Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Growing up in Ethiopia, dark skin was the standard, and having spent many summers in Canada, Maisha delves into black culture in a western context. Lehwatch intends to explore the complexities of culture and blackness in design, producing conscious, stand out pieces from up-cycled traditional Ethiopian fabrics.
