COLLECTION: BERGHAUS MADE IN NEWCASTLE

DEAN STREET BY BERGHAUS; MADE IN NEWCASTLE words Andrea Ward - images Rosie Matheson

Born in Newcastle in the early 1970s by climbers and mountaineers Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison, Berghaus has become one of the leading outdoor brands in the field and has paved the way for the younger contemporary outerwear brands while providing the industry with a hybrid streetwear aesthetic. To celebrate over fifty years of history, Berghaus is bringing back a selection of unisex styles that look back into the brand's archives.

Titled 'Dean Street' the collection - and name - pay homage to the brand's original birthplace and seeks to explore and celebrate Berghaus' extensive and rich archive dating back to the 1980s. The Dean Street collection sees a fresh release of some of the most classic pieces such as The Windshirt '90 - a style integral to Berghaus' history and that throughout the years has been mimicked time and time again in the fashion industry by both old and new designers.

Both the collection and the imagery created to showcase the collection are filled with a true feeling of nostalgia not only in the design of the garments but the colorway and photography styles looking at the past eras especially the play on the rave scenes of the 90s, Manchester Britpop and terrace culture with the styles incorporating logos and trims from each original piece.

The campaign imagery was shot by famed photographer Rosie Matheson, and see’s the brand shot across the streets of Berghaus’ birthplace capturing the true spirit of the brand and its humble beginnings before it became a globally recognized. Staying true to the history and heritage of the brand, the models seen throughout the campaign are true children of Newcastle, and were selected after several days of street castings.

The first drop of the Dean Street collection is now available on Berghaus.com, ASOS, Urban Outfitters, Scotts, and size? and range from £40-£200.
