Growing up Northern – in what were otherwise mundane villages and estates out of the city, a bus ride to the city centre was always a treat. Window browsing, playing out, curby, backy’s, footy, MP3’s, music out loud at the back of the bus, meeting your mates at the skatepark, street fights, painting, doodling, making up dances with your siblings, hanging around the food court for hours after buying just some chips- those were the moments that didn’t feel like much, but meant something. They shaped us to appreciate what we have today, as adults, with a tiny bit more access to opportunities, and the world at our fingers, we now have the resources to be truly us. But we haven’t changed much. We just dance harder, listen to louder music, get hurt more when we fall from our skateboard, get hit with a ball or by our mate sparring. We eat more, buy more, create more, as we have more means. We have perfected our crafts, know every trick, and can make beautiful art and music. Yet, the love was always there, and the love remains. It is important for us to remember we were just as happy with the basics- and with that we pay homage by now wearing the garments our childhood friends have made, garments made slowly, with so much love and care.
