Behind the Scenes with BombayMami at BBC Maida Vale

BombayMami is a Swiss-Indian artist stepping fully into her own. With her latest album Peaceful Attitude, she delivers a sound that is as bold as it is self-assured, blending cultures, identities, and influences into something entirely her own.

Rooted in honesty and driven by instinct, Peaceful Attitude marks a shift: a release defined by letting go — of expectations, of being palatable, of the need to be liked. What remains is something sharper, more intentional, and undeniably powerful.

At its core, BombayMami’s message is clear: own it all. Your culture, your sexuality, your softness, your power — without apology, without permission.

In conversation with F Word, she speaks on stepping into that mindset, the truth behind the music, and the energy shaping this new era — alongside exclusive behind-the-scenes imagery from her BBC Maida Vale live session.

F Word: How would you introduce yourself right now?

BombayMami: I’m BombayMami — a Swiss-Indian artist blending cultures, sounds, and identities. I grew up between worlds, and now I’m finally owning all of them. This phase of my life is about stepping fully into my power — as a woman, as an artist, and as someone who refuses to be put in a box.

F Word: Temperature, colour, taste?

BombayMami: Temperature: Hot. Like humid Delhi heat before a storm.

Colour: Deep red with flashes of gold and electric blue.

Taste: Spicy-sweet — like mango with chilli and lime.

F Word: Biggest change during the writing process?

BombayMami: Letting go of trying to be “liked.”

At some point I stopped filtering myself — sonically, lyrically, emotionally. That’s when the project became honest… and way more powerful.

F Word: What do you want listeners to take away?

BombayMami: That they can own themselves fully… their culture, their sexuality, their softness, their power.

I want people to feel like: “I don’t need permission to be who I am.”

F Word: One essential component of a great album?

BombayMami: Truth.

If it’s not honest, you feel it immediately. Even in a club track…the truth is what makes it hit.

F Word: Go-to studio lunch?

BombayMami: Something comforting but quick…

dal, rice, maybe some achar, or honestly just snacks and coffee when I’m deep in the zone.

F Word: Fuck, marry, kill: album, EP, single?

BombayMami: Fuck: Single (fast, exciting, instant gratification)

Marry: Album (deep commitment, long-term love)

Kill: EP (sorry… identity crisis )

F Word: What impact do you want your music to have?

BombayMami: I want my music to move people physically and emotionally — make them dance, feel seen, feel stronger.

And especially for brown girls, queer people, and outsiders… I want them to feel represented, powerful, and loud.

F Word: New career if not music?

BombayMami: Honestly… something with healing and touch..like a massage therapist or working in wellness.

Still helping people feel good, just in a different way.

F Word: Advice to yourself for tomorrow?

BombayMami: Trust your timing.

You don’t need to rush — what’s meant for you is already aligning.

F Word: Do you believe in manifestation?

BombayMami: Yes — but not the fluffy version.

Manifestation is clarity + action + discipline + belief. You have to meet the universe halfway.

F Word: Favourite F word?

BombayMami: Freedom.
