TOBIAS CORDES, 21, Epping at Oxygen Models reflecting isolation

F WORD: How have you been dealing with the whole isolation thing? TOBIAS CORDES: I’ve been dealing pretty well with the isolation thing. Most people know me as being quite energetic and open but at heart, I’m a true introvert. It has given me more time to do the things I usually push to the side in day to day life, like catching up on a show or reading a good play.

F WORD: What have you been doing to occupy your time and mind? TOBIAS CORDES: I have been binge-watching the whole Studio Ghibli collection of movies! I love anime and Japan in general and they are a joy to watch. I’ve also been having Japanese lessons over Facetime! We just got a kitten and he’s been taking up a lot of time, he’s very cute. I also have started using TikTok. It’s a lot of fun. I do acting as well as modelling and it allows me to be creative and have a good laugh.

F WORD: How are you feeling about the COVID-19 pandemic? TOBIAS CORDES: In terms of the pandemic, I don’t feel much anxiety around it, I can’t say why for certain. I think I am quite good and keeping cool in these sorts of situations. It’s definitely a weird feeling knowing what’s going on but I feel at ease knowing that my family is behaving very safely and we aren’t taking risks.

F WORD: What are your thoughts on how your government and the world are dealing with it? TOBIAS CORDES: I’m actually very impressed with how the government have been dealing with the situation. I never feel out of the loop with what is going on and I feel confident in the hard-working NHS and the volunteers that have stepped forward. It’s quite inspiring really.

F WORD: What would be your perfect soundtrack for this time? TOBIAS CORDES: My perfect soundtrack for this time would be Grimes’ latest album 'Miss Anthropocene'. It dropped a few weeks before lockdown and I’m still obsessed. I find Grimes so intriguing as an artist and in my mind, this album is linked to this time of isolation. She even has a song on there called ‘Before the Fever’. Seems fitting.

F WORD: What do you miss the most right now? TOBIAS CORDES: I miss working! I walked for Luis De Javier’s ‘El Invitado’ show for LFW and I was on a high. I can’t wait to get back into modelling after this is over. I also just miss going out to meet my friends. I like to keep my circle of close friends small and have very close bonds with them. I miss going for coffee with them.

F WORD: What is the one thing you look forward to when this is all over? TOBIAS CORDES: Going to Brighton for a night out with my best friend Corie.

F WORD: Can you suggest a movie/series/or book we should check out during isolation? TOBIAS CORDES: Definitely watch 'The Tale of the Princess Kaguya'. One of my favourite Studio Ghibli movies. Couldn’t believe how good it was.

F WORD: A hopeful statement to encourage others: TOBIAS CORDES: Don’t feel that you need to plan every part of your day to stay sane. Do what truly makes you happy.

F WORD: Favourite f-word: TOBIAS CORDES: Fawn.
