EDWARD BAYER, Rochester, NY represented by Kevin Holloman reflecting isolation
F WORD: What are your top 5 interests? EDWARD BAYER: Ice Hockey, music, photography, talking with people, and fashion.
F WORD: How have you been dealing with the whole isolation thing? EDWARD BAYER: Since my college has let out early to online classes, isolation has been pretty easy! Home workouts, hikes outside of town, and playing soccer with my best friend.
F WORD: What have you been doing to occupy your time and mind? EDWARD BAYER: Most of my time has been spent doing school work, working out, hiking, and just lounging around with my best friend. Classes have also been very busy so it’s taken up a lot of my time!
F WORD: How are you feeling about the COVID-19 pandemic? EDWARD BAYER: It’s a truly scary time. A lot of people are dying and the world is behind on its response to this issue.
F WORD: What are your thoughts on how your government and the world are dealing with it? EDWARD BAYER: Our government and the world were completely behind on their response to the issue. When the spread started in the United States, our government did not take any action to neutralize the spread of the virus and continuously neglected the severity of the issue. Thousands of people had already been dying all over the world with no cure in sight and yet we did nothing. The United States should have instituted a mandatory national lockdown for 1 month much earlier in the response. The National Guard was dispatched to New Rochelle, a suburb of NY and locked it down dispersing food and helping families in need to ensure a successful containment which will probably go to waste considering the rest of the country is engaged in a half-assed quarantine. It’s also absolutely absurd that the United States does not have medical reserves for a pandemic such as this. We claim to be the most advanced, well equipped successful nation in the world while we spend more on our military than the next 10 countries combined. If we can spend so much on our military having reserves to kill people and invade other countries, I think we can spend some money to have medical reserves like facemasks, ventilators, and protective equipment for our own doctors and citizens.
F WORD: What is the best thing you’ve been able to do since isolation? EDWARD BAYER: Take time to myself and reorganise my time. Though it’s tough being in quarantine, there is a lot of extra time in the day and it’s important to utilize it effectively.
F WORD: What do you miss the most right now (due to isolation)? EDWARD BAYER: Being able to go for drinks with my friends or take my girl to a nice dinner. Just something out of the house and around other people.
F WORD: What would be your perfect soundtrack for this time? EDWARD BAYER: Lately I have been relistening to Revenge of the Dreamers III.
F WORD: Can you suggest a movie/series/or book we should check out during isolation? EDWARD BAYER: I’ve been watching a lot of Criminal Minds, Tiger King, and Don’t Fuck With Cats.
F WORD: A hopeful statement to encourage others: EDWARD BAYER: That fact that you’re yourself, that’s what makes you different.
F WORD: Favourite F-word: EDWARD BAYER: Fuck!
