FASHION: ‘REMOVING WHAT’S MOVING’ PART 2

‘REMOVING WHAT’S MOVING’ PART 2 CHAMPION TEAMS UP WITH EMERGING BRITISH PHOTOGRAPHER TOM EMMERSON FOR THEIR CREATIVE PROJECT words Andrea Ward - images Tom Emmerson for Champion

Streetwear label Champion has been partnering with some of London’s most distinctive and talented young photographers to create and curate a unique photography series that perfectly translates the brand's aesthetic and design approach into beautiful images. The ongoing series, titled ‘Removing What’s Moving’, is a celebration of youth, style, and authenticity within the creative realms as well as outside. The fresh new project aims to give aspiring young photographers the chance to capture the brand's latest collection through their lenses while showcasing to the world why they are called 'talented youth'.

The selected young photographers have been given the task to cast, style, and photograph their own shoot having complete and total creative freedom to work while portraying Champion how they see it. Elements such as colour, lighting, location, and the overall composition of the aesthetic are what makes their work as creatives so unique. Champion has identified the individuality of each creative - just as they do with their consumers - and by taking that into account, the streetwear giant has created an opportunity - and space - for individuality to be celebrated and expressed.

The first photographer to take on the task was London-based photographer Elliot Jones, whose serene shots of nature have put him on the top of the list of candidates for this collab. Following Jones' partnership with Champion, the second drop sees London-based photographer, Tom Emmerson, taking the shots. Emmerson is a name highly recognizable in the streetwear and creative scene as the teenager whose creativity knows no bounds. He started shooting campaigns and editorials at any time he could find between school and studying for his exams and has shot campaigns for the likes of Helmut Lang, Burberry, and Converse.

Emmerson's signature aesthetic is one that perfectly and candidly portrays youth in a raw and captivating way. His au-naturel-looking images captured his very own friends in their relaxed moments while hanging out at parks and skating. For his Champion photography series, Emmerson has invited some of his friends; Victor, Jason, Livi, and Jade to go on a day out in the countryside where the candid and heartfelt images were shot in the grounds of an Old Rectory of Kent. The portraits focus on Champion's iconic 'Reverse Weave' collection in the Spring/Summer 2019 colourways and perfectly showcases Tom’s creativity and unique signature style.
