MODELS REFLECT ISOLATION: SCARLETT VADGAMA

SCARLETT VADGAMA, 19, Brixton at Select
reflecting isolation

F WORD: How have you been dealing with the whole isolation thing?
SCARLETT VADGAMA:
I think I have been dealing with isolation quite well, giving the circumstances. It was a big change to go from the busy life of constant travel to just being grounded but I’m just trying to keep busy, relaxed and take each day as it comes.

F WORD: What have you been doing to occupy your time and mind?
SCARLETT VADGAMA:
I’m currently at my house with my parents, my best friend, Alex, my dog and my cat too. Since everyone is home the house seems to feel quite small so Alex and I like to take the dog out for walks or just sit in my garden to spend some time outside. I’ve recently started crocheting; I was attempting to make a bikini but it’s definitely still just an attempt right now. I’m also getting through the massive amount of books on my list starting with “This Is Going To Hurt” written by Adam Kay since it seems to be a very relevant book due to our current situation. Aside from that I’ve been drinking my weight in tea and trying to start a workout routine - the latter is definitely still pending.

F WORD: How are you feeling about the COVID-19 pandemic?
SCARLETT VADGAMA:
It’s definitely scary and it has already had so much impact on everyone's life but I’m feeling okay about it. It’s not in my control right now so staying home and isolating is the best way to help but other than that I’m just trying to keep positive and I’m not thinking too far ahead, just dealing with today.

F WORD: What are your thoughts on how our government and the world is dealing with it?
SCARLETT VADGAMA:
The Government are dealing with an extremely difficult and unpredictable situation so it’s hard for me to make much of a comment on how they’re dealing with it. At first, it was a joke but then a massive amount of panic started to grow amongst most people. At the moment, it’s a bit more calming as more measures have been put into place and people are getting used to this big change in their lives. It’s definitely not an easy thing to deal with but I do believe the main focus should be those with the virus in hospitals as well as the hospital workers and other key workers.

F WORD: What would be your perfect soundtrack for this time?
SCARLETT VADGAMA:
Ottolenghi by Loyle Carner.

F WORD: What do you miss the most right now due to the lockdown?

SCARLETT VADGAMA: My mum! She lives in my hometown and I was meant to visit her just as the lockdown came into force so I didn’t manage to. I miss the other people from my life too but McDonald’s is definitely high on the list.

F WORD: Can you suggest a movie, series or book you are into right now?
SCARLETT VADGAMA:
The best book I can recommend is 1984which is a fictional George Orwell's book written in 1949 about what the future could be like. “Killing Eve” is such a good drama to binge but I’d recommend “People Just Do Nothing” if you’re more into comedy.

F WORD: A hopeful statement to encourage others:
SCARLETT VADGAMA:
It’s important to try to keep positive in times like this when everyone is really in crisis. Right now we’ve been given the opportunity to work on ourselves, eat well, sleep well, exercise, meditate, read and educate ourselves. Remembering how lucky we all are is vital, the fact we just have to stay in until it’s over is really a blessing as some don’t have that option. There is still so much we actually can do including volunteering to help key workers including NHS staff.

F WORD: Favourite f-word:
SCARLETT VADGAMA:
Forgiveness.
