MODELS REFLECT ISOLATION: KIARA CAMPBELL

KIARA CAMPBELL, London, at Contact Agency

reflecting isolation

F WORD: How have you been dealing with the whole isolation thing?
KIARA CAMPBELL:
At first I have found it very difficult to deal with the whole staying away from others and not being able to leave the house. The last few weeks have defiantly been far from normal but now I am using this time as an opportunity to better myself and my mental health.

F WORD: What have you been doing to occupy your time and mind?
KIARA CAMPBELL:
I am using this time to catch up with any work I have been doing. As a menswear design student, I’ve been creating a portfolio and a website of my work. I find drawing really helpful as it can be very therapeutic. I have also been Face-timing my friends, learning new dishes to cook, and exercising in my garden when the weather is nice.

F WORD: How are you feeling about the COVID-19 pandemic?
KIARA CAMPBELL:
I’ve been feeling a lot of mixed emotions about this situation. If I’m being honest, at first, I wasn’t that worried and didn’t really expect it would be this bad. But as the days went on and the news notifications kept on popping on my phone, that’s when I started to get worried. I wasn’t worried about the virus itself I was more worried about people stockpiling for food or how people wouldn’t really stay inside. To even get my meds I had to go to 3 pharmacies just because it was out of stock. It’s a tough situation for everyone, and it’s important to know that we are not alone in this situation, everyone is going through it at the same time just as we are. Now I’m just trying to think positively about this situation while trying my best to stay at home.

F WORD: What are your thoughts on how our government and the world is dealing with it?
KIARA CAMPBELL:
I can understand that the government is trying to do the best they can at this time; this is a situation that hasn’t been handled before although I do think that Boris Johnson should have put the UK on lockdown earlier. But so many people right now are working so hard throughout this rough time, from supermarket workers to the NHS doctors and nurses. It’s important at this time that we support them by staying at home.

F WORD: What would be your perfect soundtrack for this time?
KIARA CAMPBELL:
'In My Room' by Frank Ocean.

F WORD: Can you suggest a movie/series/or book we should check out during isolation?
KIARA CAMPBELL:
I recommend watching this series called 'I Am Not Okay With This' on Netflix and also 'Noughts and Crosses' which you can watch on BBC Iplayer.

F WORD: A hopeful statement to encourage others:
KIARA CAMPBELL:
A quote that’s got me through this is “nothing happens to you, it happens FOR you, see the positive in negative events.”

F WORD: Favourite f-word:
KIARA CAMPBELL:
FOOD.
