MODELS REFLECT ISOLATION: JACK BEAZLEY

reflecting isolation

F WORD: How have you been dealing with the whole isolation thing?

JACK BEAZLEY: It’s been really tricky; I've been in isolation for too long and it becomes much, much easier when you try to keep your mind active and occupied, even doing the smallest of things!

F WORD: What have you been doing to keep your mind occupied?

JACK BEAZLEY: As a dancer, it is vital that I stay active and fit (with whatever I can find to help me) which has actually been made easy as a lot of dancers have come together and have been making Instagram Live’s and IGTV videos of classes and exercises which is SO helpful! Also, as an artist, I am remaining creatively fuelled and inspired. I’ve started to conceptualise a few projects that I can get to work on. Also, nothing beats a really good book!

F WORD: How are you feeling about the COVID-19 pandemic?

JACK BEAZLEY: I think, like everyone, I am concerned and frightened but we have to, as a society, face adversity, be resilient, do what we can and do as we are told by the scientists, epidemiologists, doctors and nurses. They are the best of the best and most certainly know what they are talking about! At the beginning I was struggling with is the lack of people’s respect for others; with this, I am referring to the panic buying which ultimately leaves those who are either elderly or less fortunate with barely anything in the stores and supermarkets to have for themselves.

F WORD: What are your thoughts on how our government and the world is dealing with it?

JACK BEAZLEY: Our government is acting upon the advice that they are receiving from some of the most exceptionally qualified scientists, doctors and nurses. As a society, we have been advised, warned and reminded by our government that we, the people, must accept and listen or we will face even worse fates. I just hope that people can listen and think of others.

F WORD: What would be your perfect soundtrack for this time?

JACK BEAZLEY: The Macbeth soundtrack for sure. Okay, this is an instrumental but it’s really haunting; can imagine it whenever the news is on… cheerful!!!! But for a lighter mood, I think ‘Break Free’ by Ariana Grande could be quite funny. Especially when this has all blown over.

F WORD: Can you suggest a movie/series/book we should check out during isolation?

JACK BEAZLEY: ‘The Miniaturist’ by Jessie Burton. Hands down. If you want to be transported somewhere completely different, back in time and experience fantastical events, this is SO the book. I’ve also just started reading ‘All The Light We Cannot See’ by Anthony Doerr – set during the Second World War and through two children’s eyes in different settings. Wow. I’m completely there.

F WORD: A hopeful statement to encourage others:

JACK BEAZLEY: It’s fascinating to think that something so small (the microscopic virus) can bring the entire world together – if we can work with each other we will be able to see this through quicker than we all think. The smallest of gestures can have the largest of impacts – give back to your elderly and less fortunate, it could make someone’s day and trust me it can make yours too.

F WORD: Favourite f-word (it can be any)

JACK BEAZLEY: It sounds cringe but ‘Family’ is my favourite; it’s a ground zero for me and I am lucky to be surrounded by one.
