CULTURE: CITADEL FESTIVAL 2018

THE BEST OF INDIE AND ALTERNATIVE AT CITADEL words Maisie Daniels - photography courtesy of Citadel Festival

July 15th saw some of F Word’s favorite artists and bands hitting the stages at also one of our favorite summer Sunday events, Citadel Festival.  With a radical relocation to Gunnersbury Park, a blast of fresh air was injected as the venue boasted the perfect backdrop for all the festivities that were to come. Not only delivering a strong and diverse line-up of artists on a sparkly platter, Citadel also provides you with a hearty side portion of all things creative to sink your teeth into.

From fitness classes to Sunday Papers Live- the reading out of Britain’s broadsheets- to arts & crafts events, they have it all. And it’s a festival for everyone. Bring your mates, your rents, your siblings or heck, just come on your own, you’re sure to have a blast. And it wouldn’t be a festival - let alone a Sunday - without comfort food and cocktails, all of which was offered from an array of delicious dining trucks. Whereas if it is the music that floats your boat you could expect to see heads banging to The Horrors, feet thumping to Fat White Family, arms lifting to Goat and the sun setting to headlining act Tame Impala, who delivered an energetically charged and ethereal performance.

This year also saw performances by British music sensation, Newcastle-born and bred Sam Fender with a performance that was, as you would expect from Sam, mind-blowing. Alternative and Indie rocker Isaac Gracie also hit the stage with a performance that could only be described as "incredibly awesome" and sent positive waves into the air and beyond. And if you were looking for an edgy-artsy act, French psych-punk rock La Femme is your kind of thing. With a sultry performance that would win you over at the first beat.

All-in-all Citadel constructs a community for those who like to relish in relaxation, channel their creativity and embrace in some escapism and we can't wait for next year's edition.

Special thanks to MAMA  Festivals and Citadel Festival.
