Dr. Marten's iconic silhouette 'The 1460' is turning sixty-years-old this year and to celebrate one of the most recognisable designs, Dr. Martens has partnered with twelve world-renowned labels, brands and designers to create beautiful and exclusive designs that explore and celebrate this heritage and culture-shifting brand. This month they celebrate by teaming back up with the incomparable and also iconic Raf Simons to reimagine the Original boot, a staple piece that has helped pave the way into some of the most significant subcultures in the world.

After six decades of self-expression, the 1460 style has grown with the subcultures that adopted them by making them an essential part of their fashion and lifestyle that have empowered generations of freedom of expression seekers. At Dr. Martens, they recognise that the world has undergone massive and significant changes throughout the decades and yet, the 1460 boot has remained unique and strong throughout the ups and downs of human existence without losing its identity, a combination of fashionability, strength and durability.

To celebrate this iconic silhouette, Dr. Martens has decided to work with twelve pioneering brands, labels and designers to create a series of one-off reworks of the Original boot with one distinct drop happening once a month, every month throughout the year and when considering the designers they would work with, Raf Simons is a name that had to be on the list as their creative partnership has existed for more than a decade now. The seamless reunion with the Belgian designer is the perfect way to go as both household names are heavily influenced by music, art and youth subcultures and have helped cement the way to the cultural revolution movements we recognise today.

Led by a simple seven-word brief – “what does the 1460 mean to you?” – Simons - know for his non-conformist approach to life, fashion, and design - has covered the smoother leather upper with a series of anarchistic punk-style nickel rings. Simons has also been inspired by the customisation trend which was heavily present during the New Romantic and/or Punk club scene of the late 1970s in New York. The perfect placement of the rings on the silhouette is also a nod to the structure of a mid-century design piece which pays homage to Raf Simons’ background in detail-driven furniture design. A dual-branded Dr. Martens x Raf Simons logo is embossed on the ankle cuff to add a finishing detail.

The collection will be available online and in select stores from Saturday 22nd February.
