ADAM PETER HICKS; BEING KIND IS COOL - A VISUAL DIARY OF SELF-ISOLATION

VISUAL DIARY CURATED, SHOT AND STYLED BY ADAM PETER HICKS DURING SELF-ISOLATION

Twenty-seven-year-old Norwich-based photographer, stylist and artist Adam Peter Hicks is currently in lockdown with his mother in the North-East of the country and while he is learning to adapt and understand the current global climate, the multifaceted creative has been keeping busy by developing a series of FaceTime shoots and self-portrait works that describe and explores the feelings, colours, shapes, and spaces surrounding him while in social distancing.

Hicks shares his latest self-isolation visual diary revealing what composes his surroundings as well as some deep and hopeful thoughts on the current lockdown lifestyle, what he is looking forward to when this is all over and what the pandemic is teaching us.

Filipe Phitzgerard: What is your current lockdown location? Adam Peter Hicks: Norwich, England.

F.P: What has lockdown been like for you? A.P.H: Lockdown has been a wave of emotions; and, a slight roller-coaster due to my mental health issues but I'm keeping productive with photography, drawing and cooking.

F.P: What have you been up to during the lockdown? A.P.H: I've been doing lots of FaceTime chats and games with friends alongside being creative and going on my daily walks. The weather here has been great which helps with everyone's mood!

F.P: What are your thoughts on the current pandemic and government response? A.P.H: COVID-19 is a virus that has changed the world in many ways. It has affected us all in one way or another. People have lost their lives and the government just uses the loss of life as a stat BUT we have to try and remain as positive as possible. Let's hope when the lockdown is over and things go slowly back to 'normal' the world changes for the better and the government will be more prepared for the future.

F.P: What do you miss the most due to the lockdown? A.P.H: Eating out at restaurants is a major part of my social life, and the hobby I enjoy the most. Restaurants here are starting to do cook along with YouTube videos which then gives me something else to do! It's good to challenge yourself. It takes your mind off of the negativity that surrounds us at this time.

F.P: What is the first thing you will do once the lockdown is over? A.P.H: I'm very much excited to work on photoshoots again. FaceTime photoshoots are fun, but I am more of a director than a photographer. It's a fun concept though and I will continue to work in this way in the future.

F.P: One feeling/emotion that best describes lockdown for you... A.P.H: Lockdown's emotion for me is uncertainty... rather juxtaposing emotions but definitely uncertainty.

F.P: Last thing you read in lockdown... A.P.H: I've been reading the back of a Dulux paint tin as I've been decorating my mother's house. (I'm in lockdown with her).

F.P: Zoom, FaceTime or Houseparty? A.P.H: FaceTime 100% even though Google has now started a meeting element on everyone's account, I am yet to try it though!

F.P: If you could Zoom/Houseparty with three people - dead or alive - who would they be? A.P.H: Alexander McQueen, Britney Spears and Tilda Swinton.

F.P: What has been one positive thing about the lockdown? A.P.H: Lockdown has been positive for me in quite a few ways! My creativity has exploded and I have millions of ideas for future projects.

F.P: If your life was a movie right now; what would the title be? A.P.H: BEING KIND IS COOL!

F.P: Last song playing on your playlist... A.P.H: Muna - I Know a Place.

F.P: If this pandemic has taught us anything...what would that be? A.P.H: To be respectful, to have discipline, and be kind. Hopefully, this makes people more caring and considerate to the world and the people surrounding them.

F.P: A hopeful statement... A.P.H: With the world changing on a daily basis, I think just remember that positivity is key and being kind is cool.

F.P: Favourite f-word... A.P.H: 'Fancifies' is a fun word!
